A voastra,

Andra

Everyone has started filming tutorials. Seriously?

I’ve been a make-up artist for 5 years. The Andra Cosmetics brand offers me all the tools I need to make tutorials, however, I don’t do this. And I don’t do this not because I lack self-confidence or I don’t have anything to show the world, but because I find it normal to pay my dues and leave this job to someone who really has something to show, who already has the experience in making a tutorial, who brings something new, who conveys something, someone who is really worth it. Nowadays, everyone has started filming tutorials.

I watch indignantly how technology has ended up in the wrong hands. It has ended up in the hands of certain ladies who are ready to press the RECORD button without knowing if what they are about to suggest actually helps someone or just fills up one’s already congested newsfeed.

When I wanted to make tutorials for certain products, I went, for example, to Sinziana Iaru, because this woman has 10 years of experience, because she knows what she’s talking about and because she was making tutorials back when other people didn’t even know what YouTube was, and sharing was just starting.

It’s getting harder and harder to sort out the information, maybe you can do it when you already have the experience, but when you’re just starting up and finding your way, who can you trust? A crazy woman who uses the heel on her shoes to do a contour and has millions of views or someone who knows exactly what they’re saying but because they haven’t done anything out of the ordinary or crazy they have the minimum of views?

We lie to our faces in our tutorials and most of the times the lie is really ugly. I’m horrified and this entire article is a manifest in which I’m asking you to stop sharing all the crap, to select more carefully and to stop making worthless people famous. People who just have access to a lipstick, a bright light and a video camera. You know why? Because these tutorials are the reason why some women have chosen not to wear make-up anymore and so we go running in circles and get back to the article I wrote last week.

You know that message that says “For your own health, avoid excessive amounts of salt, sugar and fats”? This is how I’m telling you as well, “For your own health, avoid excessive amounts of bad tutorials, likes and shares”.

See you soon,

Yours,

Andra
